About Julia

Silk and Merino wool, soap and water, slowly transforming, developing a new identity.

Felt is a medium with a multitude of possibilities often governed by the fibres themselves.

I start with an idea and lay the template, but during the transition from fibre to fabric a metamorphosis takes place, resulting in a completely unique and exciting garment.

I have a family history of very strong, creative people who were always prepared to "have a go".

In an era when the availability of exotic fabrics was limited my mother was known for her creativity in piecing together fabrics and lace in order to attain the look she had floating around in her head.

Growing up in country Western Australia I have always had a love of changing colours of our magnificent landscape and the amazing wildflowers that seemed to miraculously appear at the first sign of Spring.
My inspirations come from a life surrounded in beauty and vitality. Art, musical theatre, dance, film and education have all been important influences in my creative journey.

Discovering the amazing art form of nuno felting was my kind of heaven and to be able to develop new techniques and fabrics to my hearts content keeps a smile on my face. Watching the silk fabric, fibre and merino wool transform into a new and original design still excites me.
